On behalf of the board of directors and advisors of Three Valleys Community Foundation (3VCF), I extend a warm welcome to you via our first organizational newsletter! In each edition, we’ll work to connect you to the needs in our community, the stories behind our non-profits and the impact they are making – and highlight how together we can give, grant and grow our Three Valleys region for the greater good.
When 3VCF officially launched in November 2021, it was after more than a year of thoughtful research and deliberate visioning. We joined a cadre of more than 750 nationwide place-based organizations – all of which work on the greatest needs in their local regions and demonstrate how philanthropic partnerships can make a difference. For 3VCF, we knew it was important to showcase the work of area nonprofits and to connect local donors with their community needs. We also knew that community trust, organizational transparency, and a Tri-Valley focus were paramount. Over the last year, we’ve strived to meet these objectives – via inclusive leadership, thoughtful funding, informed giving, and collaborative action. It’s all part of our ‘power of three’ commitment – a theme that you’ll see reiterated in all we do. View our Fact Sheet to learn more!
Over the last year, we’ve been honored to serve as a philanthropic anchor supporting important local causes and addressing community needs via the Pleasanton Weekly Holiday Fund, the Dublin Fallen Officers Fund, and We are Pleasanton Fund, among others. Currently, we are funding key initiatives in Sunol, Pleasanton, and Danville Area / San Ramon Valley. In 2023, through our first community benefit grantmaking, we’ll expand our focus on giving, granting, and growing, thanks to the leadership and vision of Amazon, who is leading our Corporate Challenge and the Power of Collaboration campaign.
Since joining 3VCF in August, I’ve had the opportunity to see firsthand the power of three and what can happen when our community – aka, the Amador, Livermore and San Ramon Valleys, collaborates. My commitment to you is that we’ll continue to make that our priority and ensure that our vision remains paramount: a community where everyone has the opportunity to live a full and rewarding life.
This inaugural edition of our newsletter highlights just a snapshot of what makes our region so special. Enjoy!

We are deeply grateful to our Founding Champions who joined us on our journey to create a new community foundation. Thanks to their support, we are well poised for the future- with approximately $1.7 million in donor assets and more than $400,000 already distributed in community funds.
The Three Valleys region is rich in innovation, scientific and technical achievements, agriculture, natural beauty, and the arts, with a strong commitment to inclusion and community. Yet submerged in our suburbs and in the midst of great affluence, there are many individuals struggling to survive daily. Our desire is to make a positive impact on our Three Valleys region by working with likeminded individuals, corporations, nonprofits, and government leaders to address the needs in our community, and we will begin that through our 2023 grantmaking. We’ve had a tremendous first year and we’re honored and humbled by all who have joined us on this journey. 3VCF has worked with key constituents, stakeholders, and community leaders to establish funds to support some of our Tri-Valley’s most pressing needs. Learn more about our active funds, their impact, and how together we are growing our community!

Thanks to a generous lead gift by Amazon, and the leadership of Sally Kay, Amazon’s Regional Head of Public Policy and External Affairs, Three Valleys Community Foundation is well-positioned to begin organizational grantmaking in 2023. Amazon was the very first organization to give $50K to the Power of Collaboration grantmaking campaign, setting the stage for subsequent $50K gifts from Pacific Gas and Electric and Sensiba San Filippo, as well as additional grants and contributions from many others.
“Our sincere thanks to Amazon, Pacific Gas and Electric and many others like Heritage Bank, Cal Water, ENGIE, Capitol Advocacy Partners, Barry & Wynn Architects, Inc. and Sensiba San Filippo,” said Kelly Bowers, 3VCF CEO/President. “They’ve joined our corporate collaboration effort to support the local nonprofits that provide direct service in our region. Our board and community committee is starting to identify the specific areas we plan to address in our 2023 grantmaking,” said Bowers. We will share this information, as well as the full details on the grant application process for interested nonprofits in the next few months. Stay tuned!”
Corporations are not the only ones joining the challenge to help address local needs via aggregate, impact grantmaking. Three Valleys has received a number of individual donor gifts and anonymous contributions as well. If you are interested in joining the journey to help those in our region, contact Kelly Bowers at kbowers@3vcf.org to learn more.
We are expanding our nonprofit directory and building key relationships within our region. Join us today by signing up for the directory and ensure all in the greater 3VCF community know about your organization!
Our all-volunteer board of directors and advisors is committed to 3VCF’s long-term vision and mission. Meet the individuals who share a collective goal to give, grant, grow!
