2023 Summer Newsletter

Give, Grant & Grow our impact

Unlocking impact in our community

With the transition from summer to fall, it’s a perfect time to think about opportunities to help our community grow. To our new fund holders, nonprofit partners and donors, we extend a warm welcome! Thank you for joining the greater 3VCF family!  We look forward to working with you and for you to unlock the impact of philanthropy.

Over the next year, we’ll take a moment to share with you some of the various ways donors are choosing to align with Three Valleys. Whether via Donor Advised Funds, Field of Interest Funds, Fiscally Sponsored Funds, or Agency Funds, each provides a unique opportunity to give, grant and grow! In this newsletter, we will highlight Donor Advised Funds, also known as DAFs.

Discover How to Amplify Your Impact

Opening a Donor Advised Fund (DAF) through 3VCF presents an opportunity for you, the donor, to amplify your charitable impact in our Tri-Valley community. As a 501c3 nonprofit, Three Valleys provides an immediate tax deduction via our organization and recommends gifts over an extended period of time. As A fundholder, you then have the opportunity to recommend ‘secondary’ allocations to nonprofits of your choice, either immediately or over time. DAFs are ideal opportunities for individuals who may want to make an immediate charitable contribution, but may not know all of the eventual intended recipients. Three Valleys can help provide a ‘concierge’ approach, working with your specific interests and focus areas to ensure alignment. Gifts can be earmarked in advance over a period of time. Both endowed and non-endowed DAF options are available, with a variety of investment options to help your corpus grow.

Channeling Local Resources to Meet Local Needs
The ease of establishing a DAF through 3VCF offers several compelling advantages, from immediate and thoughtful giving to aligning the fund longterm with your values or interests.

For families looking to create a philanthropic legacy, a DAF is often easier and less expensive to establish than a private foundation and is subject to fewer restrictions and regulations. Our DAF holders can also start with a modest contribution and increase their support each year. All the while, donors may draw on 3VCF’s local expertise and community partnerships to identify worthy nonprofits to support. This local expertise can be invaluable for donors seeking to maximize the impact of their charitable contributions, while strengthening our flourishing region.

Our DAF holders also receive access to a private online portal to easily view fund transactions, including donations, manage grant disbursals and monitor investment returns on DAF assets, offering transparency and that extra peace of mind. 3VCF has identified a number of well-qualified investment pools to select from, allowing our donors to align their financial goals, risk tolerance, and planned charitable giving. Three Valleys can also work with you or your financial advisor to accept stocks, fund transfers or even complex gifts like real estate to open up a DAF.

The minimum investment required to open a DAF with 3VCF is $5,000. Two recent examples of 3VCF DAFs are the Give, Grant and Grow Green fund, and Project HOPE (Helping Others through Philanthropy and Education). We encourage you to reach out to us at info@3vcf.org for further information and to explore DAF options. We’re happy to talk it through with you!

Building our community

Just launched: 3vcf's nonprofit event calendar

Our vibrant Three Valleys Region is home to over 360 nonprofits providing direct service to our community! At 3VCF, we recognize that nonprofits host a number of engaging community and fundraising events, both free and ticketed, in support of a wide range of worthy causes. With that in mind, please take a moment to visit our Nonprofit Events Calendar, a 3VCF website feature that will help promote and publicize nonprofit gatherings!

The events calendar is designed to spotlight all our local nonprofits who are working to build a sense of community and belonging, while making a lasting and positive impact on the quality of life in our region. We encourage our local nonprofits to join our growing nonprofit directory and submit their upcoming events.

'Conversations' with 3VCF

In September, Dr. Kelly Bowers, 3VCF CEO/President was a special guest on Conversations with Mel McKay to spotlight the important work 3VCF is carrying out in our Three Valleys region. We invite you to view this episode to learn more about how we are giving, granting, and growing our community!
