SUMMARY:Shakespeare in Harlem (02/22)
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a captivating evening with “Shakespeare in Harlem\,” a play reading inspired by Langston Hughes’s 1942 poetry collection. Witness the poignant reflections of an old man seated on a Harlem curbstone as he delves into the themes of migration from the South and the West Indies. This dramatic reading is a part of the Tri-Valley for Black Lives events celebrating Black History Month. \nWhat exactly is a “reading\,” you ask? Imagine a space where professional actors\, script in hand\, breathe life into characters right before your eyes\, without the need for memorized lines. It’s not quite the full-blown theater production and it’s so much more than mere storytelling. It’s a unique hybrid where poignant prose meets passionate performance\, all lightly staged to spark your imagination and kindle your spirit. \nDon’t miss this profound exploration of culture\, identity\, and history through the lens of one of America’s greatest poets.
