In this talk\, Dr. Campos‑Castillo will define artificial intelligence (AI) companions and discuss what we currently know about how young people are using AI companions and the benefits\, risks\, and best ways to keep young people safe. She will draw connections to trends in young people’s mental health and recent deaths by suicide among young people that have been linked to AI companion use. Xiaofang Chen\, Co-Founder and President of the Alan Hu Foundation\, is grateful for the support of Tri-Valley Nonprofit Alliance\, a contributor who has made this presentation possible. \nCeleste Campos‑Castillo\, PhD\, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Media and Information at Michigan State University. She studies how digital technologies\, from AI companions to social media\, shape the health and well‑being of children and adolescents. She partners with young people to design the research she conducts and the resulting solutions. She is also a parent\, which fuels her commitment to helping families\, educators\, and communities understand the rapidly changing digital world that young people are navigating. Her goal is to provide research that leads to practical\, compassionate approaches that support young people. \nThe free webinar will be held on Tuesday\, April 14\, 2026\, at 5:30 – 6:30 pm PT via Zoom. The next decade is critical to reversing this crisis—together we can bring awareness about soil health and secure the future of our children and our planet. \nAbout Save Soil Movement :\nSave Soil is a global people’s movement launched by Conscious Planet\, founded by Sadhguru\, to address an existential crisis – the rapid degradation of agricultural soils. Over the last three decades\, Save Soil has implemented a holistic strategy for soil revitalization through scalable farmer-driven projects\, policy advocacy\, and citizen awareness campaigns.\nThe movement is working with governments across the globe to shape soil policies\, and is supporting over 250\,000 farmers in India to transition to various other regenerative agricultural practices\, including agroforestry. In 2022\, Sadhguru rode a motorcycle 30\,000km across the globe in 100 days to raise mass awareness of the soil crisis. This presentation will cover the basics of how behavioral activation (BA) for depression works and how it fits in with other psychotherapies for depression and other disorders.  There will be brief explanation of a behavioral rather than medical model of depression\, and why it matters to anyone other than researchers and scholars. Dr. Martell will also engage in discussion with participants about tips for helping loved ones when they are experiencing a depression episode\, and when their distress has increased to a point where they may see suicide as an option. Xiaofang Chen\, Co-Founder and President of the Alan Hu Foundation\, is grateful for financial support of the Tri-Valley Nonprofit Alliance to offer this presentation free to the public\, including live simultaneous Spanish interpretation. Live simultaneous Chinese interpretation is provided. \nChristopher Martell\, Ph.D.\, ABPP is Director of the Psychological Services Center and Professor of Practice in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at the University of Massachusetts\, Amherst Massachusetts. Dr. Martell is first author of two of the primary texts on contemporary behavioral activation (BA)\, an effective psychological treatment for depression. His book\, Living Well with Depression\, part of the Guilford Press living well series is due to be available in July 2026. He was in private practice in Seattle\, Washington for 23 years\, and on the clinical faculty in the departments of Psychology and Psychiatry at the University of Washington prior to turning his attention exclusively to training the next generation of students.
