SUMMARY:An Innovative Recovery-Based Approach to Suicide Prevention/Webinar by Robert Gregory\, MD
DESCRIPTION:On Tuesday\, March 17\, 2026\, at 5:30 – 6:30 pm PT\, Dr. Robert Gregory will give a webinar\, An Innovative Recovery-Based Approach to Suicide Prevention. Suicide rates in the U.S. have risen dramatically over the past two decades\, especially for youth and young adults. Dr. Gregory will review underlying causes of this crisis\, limitations of our mental healthcare system’s response to it\, and promising new developments. He will discuss the need to move from a chronic illness model to a recovery-based model and will share the results of an innovative recovery-based treatment program. He will summarize the barriers to wider implementation of effective interventions\, and the need for consumer advocacy. Xiaofang Chen\, Co-Founder and President of the Alan Hu Foundation\, is grateful for the support of Three Valleys Community Foundation to make this presentation possible. \nRobert J. Gregory\, M.D. is a Distinguished Service Professor and former Chairperson in the Department of Psychiatry at SUNY Upstate Medical University. He is the developer of Dynamic Deconstructive Psychotherapy (DDP)\, an evidence-based treatment used for chronic and severe conditions\, such as depression\, borderline personality disorder\, addictions\, and suicidality. He is the founder of Upstate’s Psychiatry High Risk Program\, an innovative\, recovery-based treatment model for suicidal youth and adults that uses DDP as its core treatment modality\, designated by the U.S. Suicide Prevention Resource Center as “a best practice in suicide prevention”. It won the 2023 America Psychiatric Association’s prestigious Silver Award in Psychiatric Services for innovative and effective mental health care. Dr. Gregory has authored numerous empirical papers and conducts training nationally and internationally. His upcoming book at Guilford Press is Resolving Therapeutic Dilemmas with Suicidal Clients: A Clinical Handbook. \nThe free webinar will be held on Tuesday\, March 17\, 2026\, at 5:30 – 6:30 pm PT via Zoom. It will include 15 minutes for questions and answers following Dr. Gregory’s presentation. To receive the Zoom meeting link\, please RSVP by March 16\, 2026\, at: https://alanhufoundation.org/. Participants may join beginning at 5:15 pm. The Mental Health Association for Chinese Communities at https://www.mhacc-usa.org will provide simultaneous Chinese interpretation. Simultaneous Spanish interpretation will also be provided. \nThe Alan Hu Foundation was created by Xiaofang Chen and Chih-Ching Hu in memory of their son\, Alan. He passed away due to mental disorders in 2018 at the age of 15. Their mission is to promote mental health\, raise awareness and remove stigma surrounding psychiatric disorders\, and to support fundamental research for cures. \nFor further information and to support the Alan Hu Foundation\, please visit the website: https://alanhufoundation.org/please-help

DESCRIPTION:Dr. Celeste Campos-Castillo will present a webinar\, What Do We Know About AI Companions and Their Impact on Young People? In this talk\, Dr. Campos‑Castillo will define artificial intelligence (AI) companions and discuss what we currently know about how young people are using AI companions and the benefits\, risks\, and best ways to keep young people safe. She will draw connections to trends in young people’s mental health and recent deaths by suicide among young people that have been linked to AI companion use. She partners with young people to design the research she conducts and the resulting solutions. She is also a parent\, which fuels her commitment to helping families\, educators\, and communities understand the rapidly changing digital world that young people are navigating. Her goal is to provide research that leads to practical\, compassionate approaches that support young people. \nThe free webinar will be held on Tuesday\, April 14\, 2026\, at 5:30 – 6:30 pm PT via Zoom. It will include 15 minutes for questions and answers following Dr. Campos-Castillo’s presentation. SUMMARY:Justice on the Table: Building Long-Term Hunger Solutions in the East Bay
DESCRIPTION:Every day across the Tri-Valley\, nonprofits and food partners work tirelessly to ensure our neighbors can eat. Yet food lines remain long. The question before us is no longer simply how to feed people today\, but how to reduce the need tomorrow. \nJustice on the Table is a candid conversation about moving beyond emergency response toward long-term\, structural solutions. Our presenters will explore the intersection of food access\, housing affordability\, wages\, healthcare\, and public policy. This conversation will examine how we can both strengthen immediate food systems and push toward transformative change that centers equity and long-term stability. \nThis program is designed for government officials\, nonprofit and business leaders\, community leaders\, and members of the press who care about the future of the East Bay and beyond. If we are serious about reducing hunger\, we must align policy\, capital\, and community leadership around actionable solutions.
